You can submit any number of applications. The Rector of Charles University set the deadline for submitting applications on 28 February 2019 or 31 March 2019. Do I have to submit multiple applications to study multiple branches on the same faculty, or to study the same branch in different forms of study?

Yes. You have to submit a separate application for each study programme/branch regardless of which faculty announced it. The same applies for applications to various forms of study (full-time/combined) in the study programme/branch – each form of study requires a separate application.

Can I take the entrance exam even if I have not passed my secondary school leaving exam at the time of application?

Yes, you can take the exam. The documents necessary to verify that the conditions of the admission procedure have been met can be submitted until 30 September 2019. Applicants who are to take their secondary school leaving exam in the autumn exam period can submit their secondary school leaving certificate until 22 October 2019.

Can I take the entrance exam even if I have not completed my Bachelor's study at the time of applying for a Master's study?

Yes, you can take the exam. The documents necessary to verify that the conditions of the admission procedure have been met can be submitted until 30 September 2019.

Is there an alternative term for taking the entrance exam?

Yes. The approval of an alternative term is fully within the competence of the faculty dean. Applicants must deliver their written request within three days of the date of the proper exam term provided they may not take the exam on the proper date for serious and substantiated reasons, in particular medical. Studying abroad as preparation for university studies is a reason to allow an alternative term. The date of the alternative term is published in the conditions of the admission procedure after selecting the faculty.

Yes. To prepare for the university entrance exams, you can take preparatory courses (programmes) or certain lifelong learning programmes. These programmes can provide you with many interesting and up-to-date information related to your study branch, but are not usually aimed at providing a systematic overview of the curriculum. Detailed and up-to-date information on preparatory courses held at Charles University can be found here.

Model questions issued by some faculties issue can be purchased directly at individual faculties (First Faculty of Medicine, Second Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine in Plzeň).

I applied for multiple study branches at multiple faculties of the CU. What if they take place at the same time?

It should not happen as we try to organize admission procedure so that terms of individual entrance exams for similar study branches do not coincide. However, we cannot rule out a situation where these terms overlap. The terms of entrance exams can be found in the conditions of the admission procedure at individual faculties.

How do I find out the results of my admission procedure?

After logging in to the Conditions of the Admission Procedure app in the upper right corner and clicking blue button “My applications”, you will learn the results assigned to your individual applications. Here, you will also find information about the appeal procedure.

Can I apply for admission to the combined form of study if I originally applied for a full-time study?

No, this is not possible. Applicants can only be admitted to the form of study specified in the application.

What is the difference between the full-time and combined form of study?

The Code of Study and Examination of the Charles University distinguishes between the full-time (daily) form of study and the combined and distance form. The distance form of study is provided only for certain subjects and not for entire study programmes.

"In the full-time form of study, the curriculum of the respective study programme expects that most of the study will take place in the form lectures, exercises, seminars, courses, practice, laboratory work, consultations, and other similar forms of teaching to be held according the regular (usually weekly) schedule during which students have the opportunity to directly acquire knowledge.

In the distance form of study, the curriculum of the respective study programme expects that most of the study will take place in the form multimedia teaching form and that teachers and students will remain fully or partly separated over the course of the study. In the combined form of study, the curriculum of the respective study programme expects that the study takes place in a form that combines features of both the full-time and distance forms of study.” (The Code of Study and Examination of the Charles University)

The organization of the study in the combined form of study differs at individual faculties. To put it simply, the combined form of study has replaced the former distance learning at universities. The teaching is usually in the form of blocks of lectures held several times per semester on a selected day of the week, often on weekends. Blocks of lectures are usually supplemented with other forms of education. Sometimes, it is combined with distance learning, individual consultations, or attendance of selected lectures along with full-time students. Exams are usually held on working days. To get a better idea, view the schedules for combined study on the website of your faculty or directly the schedule of the selected study branch.

If I successfully pass the entrance exam in 2019, may I apply for postponement of the start of my study until 2020, for example due to a stay abroad?

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as postponement of the start of study.

What is the deadline for applications to Ph.D. (doctoral) programmes in the Czech language?

You will find the exact date applicable for your study branch in the database Conditions of the Admission Procedure under the respective study branch or directly in the office dealing with doctoral studies at the respective faculty (it could be the registrar's office or science departments depending on the faculty).

It may also be the case that a faculty announces a later deadline for the submission of applications for some of its study branches (e.g., due to late accreditation of the branch). The deadlines will also be continuously updated according to the information from faculties here.
